How to Engage

There's been a shifting across this nation and the body of Christ these past few months. Have you felt it? Maybe you've observed the news of revival across the West Coast and other locations, or caught sight of God moving within your own community and church family. During times like this, it can be easy to feel on the outside of the movement; suspicions of insignificance, apathy or simply distractions of outside circumstances can keep us from engaging with the fresh outpouring of God's Spirit.

Last week we heard from Pastor Doug on the right response in this season. (If you missed the article, you can find it here.) I think the points made in that article are so relevant and important, they're worth drawing attention to again. Worship and connection with our loving Father; our first and most important value at all times. We can't afford to lose our wonder and adoration. Secondly, we are called to deeper prayer, with unprecedented focus on leaning into what God wants to do in us and on the earth. As we seek out the mysteries of His nature and open our own hearts to encountering Him, we will begin to engage and be an active part of this incredible moment in history. If you're reading this and feeling like you're on the outside looking in, I'm here to tell you that you're not being passed by. You're not "doing it wrong" or "missing it". The invitation is here, open for you; He is always present and ready to move in our lives. He is as close as close can be, it's our job to open our hearts and become aware of Him in our coming and our going. Still feel like it's too hard to connect? Sometimes action begets change, and as we begin to take steps in the direction of love, our hearts will begin to soften and be moved by grace and wonder again. My encouragement today is this: do something. Crack open your Bible, get on the phone with someone you trust who will exhort you in Christ, look for opportunities to pause throughout the day and meet God for a moment. Breathe Him in through nature and movement, or rest in His presence and explore His heart. Decide that you're going to be a part of this story, this movement, and take the leap; surrendering is an action and engaging is the secret. "Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." Matt. 6:33 You are significant, and you were made for purpose. I believe that with all my heart. Let's lean in, he isn't finished yet!
