Seize the Day!

This time of year, I love to reflect on all that Jesus has done for us through His passion. Some of my favorite passages in the scriptures recounts how He suffered, bled and died. Now, because you are so familiar with the story, don't rush ahead to the conclusion of that Sunday morning. Sit here with me a bit on Thursday evening and reflect on what is about to happen.

Jesus will give some of His most insightful teachings about Himself and the Father. He will talk about our future on this night and reveal more to the disciples than ever in His ministry. He will pour out His heart in Gethsemane and his disciples...

...will fall asleep.

Have you ever been in a situation that only later you discovered how important it was? I remember a time when my wife and I were within driving distance to Oklahoma, where my grandparents lived and she wanted to see them. I had just started at a new church and decided to return to this struggling little congregation to pastor 6 people (it grew, but it took a little time!) and not elect to drive the couple of hours to see my grandparents. In a couplke of months, my grandfather passed away (he was a strong believer) and I missed an opportunity and didn't even know it. The moment was important and I didn't see it!

Like the disciples, there are all times where something didn't seem important at the time, but would prove to be monumental! I sense we are in that season right now, in the midst of quarruntine, a season of vast importance which we might not recognize. During this Passion week, it is vital that we seize the day and lean into what God is doing.

There has been a definitive shift and this sequestering will come to an end. We are definitely closing to being back to our lives than farther away. It is this very fact that compels me to say this: Don't hope for the release that you miss the blessing in the waiting. God is sitring us up right now like never before. Revival is in the air. People are scared of a virus they can't see and are open to God like never before. We must be like sprinters in the starting blocks, primed and ready, for once this shifts, it will take off like a bullet train. USe every moment to be at rest and lean into Jesus in this season.

He awaits you. This time is coming to a close. Squeeze out every moment for Him before life acts like a tyrant and tries to bully you back into a schedule of driving to and fro, dropping kids off, performing at work and the fulness that leads to emptiness. Prepare for the onslaught by being with Him now, resting in His word and in worship. Take communion daily on your own and join us online each night. Pray, like you never have before. Seize the day!

This word from Jesus in John 13 speaks to us today:

35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”

While you have this time, walk in it before the Lord and pursue Him.

Remember, this won't last forever!
