When You Don't Need A Law

Galatians 5:19-23 (ESV) Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Just this last week, the Governor of Colorado signed into law an abortion law that allows the ending of a child's life right up to the moment of birth. In California, there is a law being considered that would allow physicians, who have sworn a Hippocratic oath, to "first do no harm", the ability to allow a child to die sans medical care for up to six weeks after the live birth.

Now for those of you who are politically motivated and see the adoption of laws as the cure for us as a nation, your response would be to double down, get involved and see the legislation

change. This is a good response and, warranted on so many levels. But if you want to see abortion eradicated, a law will never accomplish that. It will curtail some people from getting abortions, but never remove everyone from that.

(By the way, if you want to know my stance and haven't discerned it yet, I am against abortion. I see it as murder. I vote for pro life candidates and their agendas.)

How to Stop Abortion In Our Lifetime

If you want to see abortion end, a law will not do it. Laws are merely reflections of the prevailing culture of the day, the values a people hold expressed as common law. Right now, even though a mjority of Americans do not favor abortion on demand, especially after 15 weeks, according to certain surveys, the currently political system that is influenced by money, corporations and donations, pacs and tech, has ceded the legislatures into more and more of a leftest agenda of abortion on demand, rather than the protection of life. Our culture and values are being shaped by nefarious and demonic influences that value life as God ordained it less and the distorted image of fallen nature more and more.

There would never be another abortion if people valued parenting, motherhood and fatherhood, and children above present circumstance.

Make no mistake, as Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) says, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." Our battle is not a legislative one, although, eventually it may make its mark there, but it is a primarily spiritual one that is against the evil spiritual rulers of this age. The way to fight is not first in the realm of politics and media, but first in the realm of the heavenlies where victory has already been secured and is waiting for us to say "Yes". 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV) For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

Prayer Changes Us First, Circumstances Second

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Prayer, an act of intimate communication with God, is a way in which we come close to God, to commune with Him and fellowship with Him. In His presence, we change and take on the values and the culture of heaven. But, prayer also becomes a catalyst whereby everything changes. John 16:24 (ESV) Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full. God wants us to take on the conditions of the day in private prayer first and public proclamation second. He longs for us to move forward into His kingdom and its mandates. On earth as it is in heaven is the measuring point we put before everything. There is no abortion in heaven. There should be none on earth, so we pray for that end. As we pray, we begin to learn what is the heart and intent of heaven, the culture of heaven. Then, we understand what His will is. By the transformation of our minds, we begin to discern the will of God in every circumstance (Romans 12:1,2) and seek that here on earth.

Ending Abortions Begins With People Changing

Of course we want to see abortions end, but how. There would never be another abortion if people valued parenting, motherhood and fatherhood, and children above present circumstance.

There is a current vogue of labeling everything that is operating on a macro level that is called out by people as "conspiracy theory". This immediately puts anyone who reads and believes the Bible as a kook. Well, frankly , I do not take my cues from what others think of me, I am not a man-pleaser. I want what the Bible has for me and what it says is Truth, period. The Bible says this about the days we are living in.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 (ESV) But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

We live in these very times, but God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He has loved us, is calling people out of darkness and into light, out of death and into life. As people are transformed and renewed in their minds, they take on the mind of Christ and view life different. In short, abortion exists because disciples don't.

As we lead people to Christ and help them become disciples of Jesus, the very legal and social fabric of this nation will change. As they follow Jesus, they will begin to value the little children, as Jesus did. They will learn to value their roles as moms and dads and not become self seeking adults, but selfless adults in the kingdom. They will take on the fruit of the Spirit, against such there is no law to aid it nor curtail it.

This my friends is how we change the world; not through legislation, but through relationship with Jesus. He, His Spirit and the fruit that comes from that relationship can never be curtailed by law nor aided by such.
